Vintage Kimono Conversion
I was given the opportunity to convert a vintage kimono to a modern day light jacket while keeping original stitching and design elements.
The Custom Garment Process
You have that perfect top or dress in mind but can not find it in any stores, or you can find the perfect top or dress but the fit leaves something to be desired. I can make your dream garment so you will look and feel like a million bucks. This is how it works.
Consultation
For $50 I meet with you and you tell me what you have in mind. We will discuss the occasion or use of this garment, how you want the garment to fit, and the type of fabrics that will work. This is a brainstorming session. Should you decide to proceed with me, the $50 will be applied to your project.
After we meet, I will put together an estimate for the cost of the design. This will include an estimate of labor hours, cost of materials such as: fashion fabric, lining, snaps, zippers, buttons, thread, and any other notions that may be required. After you have agreed to the final design, I will collect 50% of the estimate to commence work on your project.
Prototype
A muslin prototype of the final garment is the next step. The goal is to have a garment that fits you perfectly and is of a style you love. The muslin probably will need more than one fitting and/or muslins. This prototype is a rough copy with unfinished seams, lots of markings and void of trims or other embellishments. Once there is an agreement on the fit and the look of your prototype, we can proceed to create the final garment.
Your finished garment
If we have not done so by this time, we will select the fabric and any embellishments necessary to get the perfect look of your garment. Please note that to insure an excellent outcome, it is imperative that only top quality fabrics be used- fine wools, silks, linen, rayon or a combination of; inferior fabric produces an inferior product. Either I can either shop with you at selected stores or provide you with a selection of fabric swatches to choose from.
I use couture techniques to make garments which means they should last a very very long time. This is not a quick process but the results are extraordinary.
The final 50% of the agreed price is due and payable at time of pick up of garment.
Pricing
Bespoke clothing can not be given blanket pricing. At $60 per hour, my pricing is based upon labor plus cost of materials. Depending on the complexity of the garment it can take from 20 hours on up to complete a project.
Time Frame
Custom clothing takes time. Three to six month’s time from consultation to final product is not unreasonable.
